Robert was born in 1839 in Drumfad, Taughboyne Pa., Co. Donegal, Ireland and his baptism took place on March 9th, 1839 in 1st Raphoe Presbyterian Church.  Robert's father was John (Drumfad) Lowry and his mother was Jane Logan.  He had three brothers and a sister, named James, Thomas, Andrew and Isabella.  He was the oldest of the five children.
