Richard was born about 1837 in Clonleigh Pa. and his baptism took place on December 8th, 1837 in Ballindrait Presbyterian Church.  Richard's father was Marshall (Black Rock) Lowry and his mother was Jane Cunningham.  His paternal grandparents were <Unknown> and <Unknown>.  He had two brothers and a sister, named Marshall, George and Mary.  He was the second oldest of the four children.
