James was born about 1836 in Drumfad, Taughboyne Pa., Co. Donegal, Ireland and his baptism took place on November 27th, 1836 in Taughboyne Parish Church.  James' father was Hugh (Drumfad) Lowry and his mother was Catherine Warnock.  His paternal grandparents were James (Drumfad) Lowry and <Unknown>.  He had two brothers and four sisters, named Alexander, Leighton, Eliza Jane, Anne, Catherine and Rebecca.  He was the third oldest of the seven children.  He had two half-brothers and two half-sisters, named Robert, Hugh, Margaret and Martha.  He died on August 18th, 1908 in Drumucklagh.  His burial was in Raphoe Cathedral (St. Eunans Ch of I), Raphoe.
