James was born on February 12th, 1776 in Broadlea, Raphoe Pa., Co. Donegal, Ireland and his baptism took place in St. Eunans Cathedral, Raphoe, Co. Donegal, Ireland.1   James' father was Robert (Broadlea) Lowry.  He had a sister named Catherine.  He was the younger of the two children.
