Catherine was born in Tullyrap, Taughboyne Pa., Co. Donegal, Ireland and her baptism took place on March 10th, 1822 in St. Eunans Cathedral, Raphoe, Co. Donegal, Ireland.1  Catherine's father was Gaun (Tullyrap) Lowry and her mother was Jane.  She was an only child.
