General Notes

Andrew of Drumbeg and Alexander and James of Feddyglass are brothers - perhaps sons of Robert Lowry. Andrew is in Drumbeg by 1745 but with 6 small children is ousted from his lease in 1768. The Abercorn letters detail the progress of the ousting from from Oct 23, 1764 through September 1768.

Nisbitt letter Earl of Abercorn: Jan 19, 1766: Andrew Lowry is still in possession and if he was out it would be unsafe for a stranger to go there; the Bishop of Raphoe has scarcely been able to protect himself or his family in that neighbourhookd and there is such a connection in that part of your Lordship's estate for they are all Lowrys or related to Lowrys that unless the chain is somehow or other broke there will be no living there for a stranger that will come into any of their farms. ....

23 Oct 1764 Richard Nelson, Dublin to Abercorn - concerning suit against Macghee - acknowledges £92.13.3 for costs 'the ejectment for which I charged was brought by direction of Mr. Nisbitt for the lands of Drumbeg in the manor of Magvelin in the County of Donegal which were in the tenure of Andrew Lowry who refused to give up the possession....'

Description : [James, Earl of Abercorn], London, to Mr Joshua Nisbitt, [Agent for his Lordship's estate in Co. Donegal].Letter of complaint concerning his negligence as agent.'My last letter to you was of the 29th of June, which I have just received an answer to, dated the 19th of this month, at the distance of more than half a year. I am much concerned to find you relapsed into the very great error of not writing to me, which I must assure you, I can not possible bear with. Whatever excuses you may make for yourself, I can not excuse myself from employing some other person in my business, upon the next omission of this sort, that you are guilty of.If you look back into my letter, you will find some particulars, which you have not answered.You have not sent one of the many leases that are yet unsigned.I must insist upon Andrew Lowry's being put out of Drumbeg, whether anybody else can live there or not. I had rather it should be waste, than submit to so much insult.

12 Dec 1766 Letter from James Hamilton to Earl of Abercorn states that Andrew Lowry had 6 small children when he left Drumbeg.
