- Thomas Hayes, born 26 Nov 1865, Raphoe, Donegal [Civil Reg: LDS#010116]. Confirmed by Derry FHC Civil Birth Register (though Thomas gave the birth of his new son as 25th November, not 26th.)

Thomas' father was Thomas Hayes and his mother was Sarah S Lowry. His maternal grandparents were Alexander Lowry and Sarah Stevenson. He had three brothers and four sisters, named John, Alexander, Henry, Sarah, Female, Andrew and Elizabeth. He was the second oldest of the eight children.
