Andrew's father was Thomas Hayes and her mother was Sarah S Lowry. Her maternal grandparents were Alexander Lowry and Sarah Stevenson. She had four brothers and three sisters, named Thomas, John, Alexander, Henry, Sarah, Female and Elizabeth. She was the sixth oldest of the eight children.
