Thomas was born on April 26th, 1825 in Lislea, Kilrea Pa., Co. Londonderry, Ireland and his baptism took place on May 22nd, 1825 in 1st Kilrea Presbyterian Church, Kilrea Pa..1  Thomas' father was George Gordon and his mother was Jane Stewart.  His maternal grandparents were James Stewart and Catherine Stewart.  He had five brothers and three sisters, named Stewart, Archibald, Archibald, Hugh, William, Jane, Catherine and Maria.  He was the second oldest of the nine children.
