Robert was born on January 12th, 1845 in Lislea, Kilrea Pa., Co. Londonderry, Ireland and his baptism took place in February 1845 in 1st Kilrea Presbyterian Church, Kilrea Pa..1  Robert's father was Thomas Gamble and his mother was Elizabeth Stewart.  His maternal grandparents were Robert "The Isles" Stewart and Jane McIlfatrick.  He had three brothers and five sisters, named Aaron, James, <Unknown>, Elizabeth, Elizabeth, Mary, <Unknown> and Martha.  He was the second oldest of the nine known children.
