Mary was born on May 30th, 1856 in Lislea, Kilrea Pa., Co. Londonderry, Ireland and her baptism took place on June 13th, 1858 in 1st Kilrea Presbyterian Church, Kilrea Pa..1   Mary's father was Thomas Gamble and her mother was Elizabeth Stewart.  Her maternal grandparents were Robert "The Isles" Stewart and Jane McIlfatrick.  She had four brothers and four sisters, named Robert, Aaron, James, <Unknown>, Elizabeth, Elizabeth, <Unknown> and Martha.  She was the sixth oldest of the nine known children.
