Samuel was born on December 14th, 1842 in Lismoyle, Tamlaght O'Crilly Pa., Co. Londonderry, Ireland.1   Samuel's father was Samuel Bolton and his mother was Mary Gray.  His paternal grandparents were Samuel Bolton and Martha Boyd.  He had six brothers and two sisters, named William, James, John, Hugh Walker, Robert, Henry, Infant and Matilda.  He was the oldest of the nine children.
