Joan De Holand
Joan was born about 1380. Joan's father was Thomas (2nd Earl of Kent) De Holand and her mother was Alice Fitzalan. Her paternal grandparents were Thomas (1st Earl of Kent) De Holland and Joan 'Fair Maid of Kent' of Kent; her maternal grandparents were Richard 'Copped Hat' (Earl of Arundel) Fitzalan and Eleanor of Woodstock Plantagenet. She had a brother and three sisters, named Edmond (4th Earl of Kent), Eleanor (Countess of March), Elizabeth (Lady) and Margaret (Lady). She was the second oldest of the five children. Joan de Holand was born circa 1380. She was the daughter of Thomas de Holand, 2nd Earl of Kent and Alice FitzAlan.
She married, firstly, Edmund of Langley, 1st Duke of York, son of Edward III, King of England and Philippe de Hainaut, circa 4 November 1393.
She married, secondly, William de Willoughby, 5th Lord Willoughby de Eresby, son of Robert de Willoughby, 4th Lord Willoughby de Eresby and Alice Skipwith, before 9 August 1404.
She married, thirdly, Henry le Scrope, 3rd Baron Scrope of Masham after 6 September 1410 in Chapel of Flaxflete, Yorkshire, England.
She married, fourthly, Henry Bromflete, 1st Lord Vessy, son of Sir Thomas Bromflete and Margaret St. John, before 27 April 1416.
She died on 12 April 1434
Joan de Holand was also known as Joan Holland. Through her marriage, Joan de Holand was styled as Duchess of York circa 4 November 1393. She was invested as a Lady Companion, Order of the Garter (L.G.) in 1399. From before 9 August 1404, her married name became de Willoughby. From after 6 September 1410, her married name became le Scrope. From before 27 April 1416, her married name became Bromflete.
