Hugh Audley, 1st and last Earl of Gloucester was born circa 1289.
He was the son of Hugh Audley, 1st Lord Audley (of Stratton Audley) and Isolt de Mortimer.
He married Margaret de Clare, daughter of Gilbert de Clare, 6th Earl of Gloucester and Joan of Acre, on 28 April 1317 at Windsor, Berkshire, England.
He died on 10 November 1347, without male issue.
He was buried at Tunbridge Priory, Tunbridge Wells, Kent, England.
He was created 1st Lord Audley [England by writ] on 20 November 1317.
In 1321/22 he joined the insurrection of the Earl of Lancaster along with his father, but was pardoned.
He was created 1st Earl of Gloucester [England] on 16 March 1336/37.
He held the office of Ambassador to France in 1341
On his death, the title of Earl of Gloucester was considered to be extinct.
