Maud was born in year 0990 in Bourgogne, France.1   Maud's father was Count of Burgundy Otto William de Macon of Burgundy and her mother was Ermentrude Adelaide de Roucy.  Her paternal grandparents were Marquis, King of Italy Adelbert of Ivrea II and Gerberga de Chalons; her maternal grandparents were  Renaud de Roucy and  Alberade of Lorraine.  She was the third of four children.  She had a brother and two sisters, named Renaud, Gerberga and Agnes.  She had a half-sister named Ermengarde.
