Matilda was born in Burgundy, France.1   Matilda's father was Duke, King of Arles Conrad of Burgundy I and her mother was Matilda de France.  Her paternal grandparents were Duke, King of Italy Rudolph of Burgundy III and Bertha of Swabia; her maternal grandparents were  Kng Louis of France IV and  Gerberga of Saxony.  She was the youngest of six children.  She had a brother and four sisters, named Rudolph, Gisele, Gerberga, Bertha and Adelaide.
