Maud was born in year 1045.1 Maud's father was Holy Roman Emperor, King Henry (The Black) of Germany III and her mother was Agnes of Poitou.  Her paternal grandparents were Emperor Conrad (The Salian) of Saxony II and Gisela of Swabia; her maternal grandparents were  Grand Count of Acquitaine William (The Great) of Poitou V and  Agnes of Burgundy de Macon.  She was the second of three children.  She had a brother and a sister, named Henry and Sophia.
