The Black's father was Emperor Conrad (The Salian) of Saxony II and his mother was Gisela of Swabia. His paternal grandparents were Count Henry of Saxony and Adelaide of Alsace; his maternal grandparents were Duke Herman of Swabia II and Gerberga of Burgundy. He was the second of three children. He had a brother and a sister, named Bruno and Beatrix. He had a half-brother named Ludwig. He died, at the age of 38 years, 11 months and 7 days, on October 5th, 1056 in Bodfeld, Hartz, Germany.¹
