The Valiant's father was Margrave Adalbert (The Victorious) of Austria and his mother was Orseolo Frowila of Venice. His paternal grandparents were Margrave Leopold (The Illustrious) of Austria I and Ryksa von Sualafeld; his maternal grandparents were Doge of Venice Ottone Orseolo and Maria Helena of Hungary. He was the youngest of two children. He had a brother named Leopold. He died, at the age of 51 years, on June 9th, 1075.¹
