Thyra was born in year 0993 in Denmark.1 Thyra's father was King Sveyn (Forkbeard) Haraldsson of Denmark I and her mother was Gunhild of Poland.  Her paternal grandparents were Harald Gormsson of Denmark II and Gunnhild Olafsdottir; her maternal grandparents were  Mieszko Piast of Poland and  Dobravy of Bohemia.  She was the third of seven children.  She had two brothers and four sisters, named Canute, Harold, Estrid, Nevia, Gytha and Gunhilda.
