Gunhilda's father was King Sveyn (Forkbeard) Haraldsson of Denmark I and her mother was Gunhild of Poland.  Her paternal grandparents were Harald Gormsson of Denmark II and Gunnhild Olafsdottir; her maternal grandparents were  Mieszko Piast of Poland and  Dobravy of Bohemia.  She was the youngest of seven children.  She had two brothers and four sisters, named Canute, Harold, Estrid, Nevia, Thyra and Gytha.
