Harold's father was King Sveyn (Forkbeard) Haraldsson of Denmark I and his mother was Gunhild of Poland.  His paternal grandparents were Harald Gormsson of Denmark II and Gunnhild Olafsdottir; his maternal grandparents were  Mieszko Piast of Poland and  Dobravy of Bohemia.  He was the fifth of seven children.  He had a brother and five sisters, named Canute, Estrid, Nevia, Thyra, Gytha and Gunhilda.
