Ermengard was born in year 0952.1   Ermengard's father was Geoffrey d'Anjou I and her mother was Adelaide of Vermandois.  Her paternal grandparents were Count Fulk (The Good) d'Anjou II and Gerverga of Gatinais; her maternal grandparents were  Count of Vermandois Robert of Meaux and  Adelaide de Vergy.  She was the oldest of three children.  She had a brother and a sister, named Fulk and Gerberge.

They had two sons and a daughter, named Judith, Judicael and Geoffrey.
