Irmtrud was born in year 0990.1   Irmtrud's father was Count Frederic I Luxembourg and her mother was Ermentrude of Gleiburg.  Her paternal grandparents were Siegfried de Luxembourg II and Edith Hedwig de Longwy; her maternal grandparents were  Herbert in the Moselgau and  Ermentrude von Avalgau of Saxony.  She was the second of five children.  She had two brothers and two sisters, named Giselbert, Frederick, Ogive and Gisele.  She died, at the age of 65 years, in year 1055.1

They had two daughters named Welfin and Cunigarde.
