William was born in year 0955 in Normandie.1   William's father was Duke of Normandy Richard (San Peur, The Fearless) Normandy I.  His paternal grandparents were Duke Guillaume I (Longue Epaee) Normandy and Sprote Adela de Senlis; his.  He was the third of six children.  He had a brother and four sisters, named Geoffroy, Sprota, Muriella, Hawise and Pappia.  He had four half-brothers and four half-sisters, named The Good, Robert, Mauger, William, Hedwig, Emma, Matilda and Beatrice.
