Ptolemy's father was Ptolemy VII Euergetes Physcon Egypt and his mother was Cleopatra III Euergetes Lagid.  His paternal grandparents were Ptolemy Philometor VI Egypt and Cleopatra II Egypt; his maternal grandparents were  Ptolemy Philometor VI Egypt and  Cleopatra II Egypt.  He was the youngest of four children.  He had a brother and two sisters, named Ptolemy VIII, Cleopatra IV and Cleopatra.
