Male Prince of Gwynedd Owain ap Gruffydd (King of Gwynedd, Owain Gwynedd) Click to view Prince of Gwynedd Owain ap Gruffydd in the family tree

Owain was born in 1100 in Aberffraw Castle, Angelesey, Wales.1   Owain's father was King of Gwynedd Gruffydd ap Cynan and his mother was Angharad verch Owain.  His paternal grandparents were Prince of North Wales Cynan ap Iago and Rhanullt O'Olaf; his maternal grandparents were Owain (Vradwr, The Traitor) Tegaingl ap Edwin and Merfydd verch Goronwy. He had two brothers and six sisters, named Cadwaladr, Cadwallon, Margred, Rhanullt, Gwenllian, Elen, Merinedd and Susanna.  He was the youngest of the nine children.  He died at the age of 69 in December 1169 in Carnarvonshire, Wales.  He was buried in Bangor Cathedral, Is Gwyrfai, Caernavonshire, Wales.2 1
