Martha was born on June 12th, 1597 in London, Middlesex, England.1  Martha's father was George Woodward and her mother was Elizabeth Honeywood.  Her paternal grandparents were John Woodward and Margaret Boulstrade; her maternal grandparents were Robert Honeywood and Mary Atwater. She had two sisters named Bridget and Elizabeth.  She was the youngest of the three children.

Martha and James were married in a religious ceremony.  They were divorced in 1571.2   They had two sons and a daughter, named William, Nathaniel and Martha.
