Thomas Henry was born on May 1st, 1852 in Van Buren, Crawford County, Arkansas, USA.1 He died at the age of 75 on January 30th, 1928 in Chester, Crawford County, Arkansas, USA. He was buried in Kimes Cemetery (also called Westview), Chester, Crawford County, Arkansas, USA.2 General Notes
Thomas Henry Kimes was born the 1st of May, 1852 in Van Buren, Crawford County, Arkansas, USA. He married 1) Alice Shipley in the fall of 1876. She was born in 1860 in Crawford County, Arkansas, USA to Benjamin Franklin Shipley, Jr. and Mary Sharp Lester. Mary Sharp Lester was the sister of Mildred Ann Elizabeth Lester, a direct ancestor of Elizabeth Lewis, first wife of Joseph Leander Kimes. In December of 1888 Thomas sold out and went to California. Alice died there in childbirth the 7th of June, 1889 at the age of 28 years. She is buried in California. Thomas and Alice had seven children: Dora Gertrude, Cornelius, F.M., Joseph Lafayette, George Washington, Charles W., and Benjamin Valentine.
After Alice died Thomas brought his motherless children back to Arkansas in September of 1889. He then married 2) Lucy Virginia Griffin the 7th of December, 1891 in Crawford County, Arkansas, USA. She was previously married to John Shields. Lucy was born the 21st of February, 1860 in Missouri to ________ Griffin and Susan Hall. Thomas and Lucy had two children: David Oscar and Ethel Elizabeth. Virginia Pierce remembers,
"Edith Barbar and I walked across the hill to the home of Uncle Thomas and Aunt Lucy one Saturday and spent the night there and walked back to our homes on Sunday. These old people were very gracious to us kids (11 and 13). We had a good time visiting with them and eating a delicious dinner and breakfast. (This was during the time when everyone was supposed to have been so poor in the Ozarks.)"
Thomas died the 30th of January, 1928 in Chester, Crawford County, Arkansas, USA and is buried in the Kimes Cemetery (also known as Westview Cemetery), Crawford County, Arkansas, USA. Lucy died the 7th of April, 1929 in Bristow, Creek County, Oklahoma and is buried in Oak Hill Cemetery, Bristow, Creek County, Oklahoma. Thomas had a total of nine children.

If Thomas married Alice Shipley in about 1876 why is she still living with her parents under the name Alice Shipley and where are Dora Gertrude and James Cornelius? I have been unable to find Thomas, Valentine Jr., John L., and Martha Kimes on the 1880 census index.
