Charlotte was born in 1863 in Dekalb Co, AL.  Charlotte's father was Calvin Henderson Roberts and her mother was Malinda Jane Simpson.  Her paternal grandparents were Vincent Roberts and Beersheba Bowles. She had two brothers and three sisters, named John Alexander, Robert Carey, Mary Alsie Kizar, Lattie Hannah and Florence Constance.  She was the oldest of the six children. She had a half-brother and two half-sisters, named Doland Anderson, Ann E. and Martha 'Patsy'.
