Mary L. was born in 1848 in Carroll Co, TN.1   Mary L.'s father was George Washington Parish and her mother was Martha A. B. Wallace.  Her paternal grandparents were John Sihon Parish and Celia Roberts. She had three brothers named William A., Elias F. and George Columbus.  She was the second youngest of the four children. She had three half-brothers and three half-sisters, named William Washington, Samuel Claborn, Henry Johnson, Martha Elizabeth, Amanda and Nellie May.  She died at the age of 32 in 1880.1
