James Marion was born on November 16th, 1850 in Rutherford Co, NC.  James Marion's father was George Goforth and his mother was Nancy Jane Houser.  His maternal grandparents were Henry Houser and Faithy Jones. He had four brothers and three sisters, named John Franklin, Henry Wright, Robert B. 'Rainer', Preston S., Amanda Harriet Elizabeth, Nancy Jane and Ellen S..  He was the fourth youngest of the eight children.  He died at the age of 79 on April 17th, 1930 in Dysartsville, Mcdowell Co, NC.  He was buried on April 18th, 1930 in Trinity United Methodist Church Cemetery, Mcdowell Co, NC.
