Ioannis was born in 1015 in Constantinople, Byzantine Empire.1   Ioannis' father was Manolis Michael Manuel Comnenus and his mother was Anna.  His paternal grandparents were Isaak Comnenus and Maria Erotica. He had a brother named Isaak.  He was the younger of the two children.  He died at the age of 52 on July 12th, 1067.1
