James Burl Mills, was English, He had two wives, (1) Lucy died at about age 36. She is buried in Louisville, KS, 15 miles from Westmoreland, KS. (2) He married Laura Morse Baldwin, in 1901 in Westmoreland, KS. James was the owner of a roller skating rink in Westmoreland, KS and the owner of a merry-go-round, which he ran in different states in the summertime. He was a very good father to the Baldwin family. Ivan and Dea Baldwin as young men helped him run the merry-go-round. At one time they traveled with the Texas Bud Side Show unit.

Grandpa Mills raised all the Baldwin sibling as his own, as well as his own son Royal. Ivan, Dea, & Royal were the best of friends and were hunting & fishing guddies. The three Baldwin brothers and their families were very close knit. They traveled along life's pathways until death separated them on this earth.

My memory of Grandpa Mills is very precious to me. When I was around 3 years of age he used to take me for walks in Los Angeles, CA. When the Ivan Baldwin Family and the Royal Mills Family went from California (when the Great Depression hit) to Sturgis, SD, Grandpa Mills stayed with Aunt Elsie and Uncle Royal in a large house on Serman St. We lived at that time in a cabin at the Sturgis City Park. Later we moved to a house next dore to 815 La Zelle St., and Grandpa Mills stayed with us for a while. Aunt Elsie become sick with TB and so my mother, Ethel, took care of Grandpa, who had suffered a stroke. Then my mom became sick, so Uncle Royal had to place Grandpa in a nursing home. In those days, it was called the poor farm. This farm was situated on a canyon hillside between Deadwood and Central City, SD. The place had rooms for the people, they were divided only by hanging walls of cloth. He died there, I believe in the winter of 1933. He was buried in the Sturgis Cemetery, Sturgis, SD. His tombstone had a bronze plate with a picture of Bear Butte engraved on it. His son, Royal Burl Mills and Royals' wife, Elsie are buried in that cemetery also. Uncle Forest Baldwin, James B Mills' step-son is buried there, too. His step-son Ivan Baldwin, is bruried in the Black Hills Cemetery as is Ivan's wife Ethel. His step-son, Dea Baldwin is buried in the Lead Cemetery. Grandpa's wife Laura Baldwin Mills is buried in the Westmoreland Cemetery, Westmoreland, KS. So are step-children, Lou Wizarde, Jack Wizarde, Sr., Arthur Baldwin, & Frank Baldwin. Laura Mills' Father E. L. Morse is buried there, too. Grandpa's first wife, Lucy, is buried at Louisville, KS, 15 miles from Westmoreland.

Grandpa had beautiful blue, twinkling eyes. I remember siting on his lap watching him peel an apple around and around so that all of the apple skin came off the apple in one piece. He loved sitting on our front porch and watching people and cars go to Fort Meade. He had a gold Railroad watch that he loved to show to me. I believe it was saved from the fire that Uncle Royal and Aunt Elsie had in Beulah, WY, when Royal Jr. and Dot lived with them (1949).

I have enjoyed finding some of Granpas' grand children; Greatgrand & great great grand and great, great, great grand children. Someday I hope to meet all of you. I hove I have this information correct, if not please forgive me.
