James Mattocks:
Will of Mary Mattock dated 8 Jan 1680, proved 11 Apr 1682, Suffolk Co., Massachusetts. Menrions daughter Alice Howe.
Will of James Mattock dated 21 Jan 1666, proved 15 Aug 1667, Suffolk Co., Massachusetts. Inventory taken by Joseph How.
Drake's History mentions 1655 Ad: "Searchers and packers of flesh and fish, James Mattock, Sen., and William Dinsdale."
History and Antiquities of Boston; Samuel Drake 1856: "John Spoor late of Clapton, near Portbury, in Somersetshire, may buy Mr. Wilk's house and ground, and that his brother James Mattocke, a cooper, may live with him. James owned a lot between Arthur Perry and Barnabas Fawer and the cove in 1647."
Genealogical Guide to the Early Settlers of America: "James Mattocks, of Boston, a cooper, came from Bristol, perhaps before 1635, his daughter was then the wife of Nathaniel Bishop."
James joined the church 1639 and was made a freeman 13 Mar 1638/9.
New England Historical Genealogical Register: " John Mattock sold barrels to Edward Tying, brewer. He and colleagues created a guild for coopers 18 Oct 1648."
Boston Transcript 26 Aug 1914, Item 1591: "Estate of Arthur Perry, tailor of Boston gave Power of Attorney to Edward Tying to sell Perry Building deeds to James Mattocks: orchards, gardens, wharf and building between land of Mattocks on the east and Robert Nanney on the west, Robert Wright to the north and six foot lane separating it from the sea. John Franklin had a cooper's ship on the premises built by James Mattocks. 20 Apr 1653. The estate was deeded to Mattock's son Samuel at the time he married Richard Fairbanks daughter 25 Apr 1653."
