Part of a Newspaper Article - the Norwalk Experiment (date unknown)

Article titled "Woman First to Break Ground in the Fairfield Area" - Widows with nine children settled in heavy forest.

...Among the oldest families in Fairfield is the Burras family. William Burras was born in Holland and migrated to the New World about 1800, landing in New York City. About 1810 he moved to Cayuga County, New York. Here his son Reuben was born January 11, 1812, while his father was gaurding the Canadian border prior to the outbreak of real war. William Burras and his son Reuben came to Fairfield township in the fall of 1827. That first winter they supported themselves by making boots for the men who were digging the canal south from Cleveland. The mother and eight other children came the next summer. Mrs. William Burras was a memeber of the Chrry family, who had already come here from Elizabethtown, New Jersey, where Mrs. Burras was born.

History of the Burras Family
Beuben Burras was married November 7, 1835 to Sally Standish who was a direct descendant in the sixth generation from Miles Standish
