DAVEIRO - In Sebastopol, June 24, 1985, Donald M. Daveiro, loving
husband of June Daveiro of Santa Rosa, father of Robert "Bud" Daveiro of
Sebastopol and Judy Howry of Sebastopol, also survived by his sisters
Grace Rains of Southgate and Gloria Pfeifer of Sebastopol, a brother,
Jack Daveiro of Sebastopol, and 3 grandchildren. Born in Sebastopol, age
70 years. Mr. Daveiro was the owner-operator of Jack's Central Cigar
Store for over 45 years. He was a former member of the 20-30 Club, the
Sebastopol Lions and Rotary and the Santa Rosa Elks Club, he was a member
of the Sebastopol Chamber of Commerce, and served on the Sebastopol City
Council for over 13 years. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated
Thursday evening June 27, 1985, at 7:00 p.m. at St. Sebastians Catholic
Church, Sebastopol. Interment private. Visitation Thursday, June 27,
1985 from 10:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. the the mortuary. Memorial
contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Foundation. Arrangements
under the direction of PLEASANT HILL-ANALY O'LEARY, Sebastopol.

Obituaries
Don Daveiro dies at 70
SEBASTOPOL - Donald M. Daveiro, for 45 years an owner of Jack's Central
Cigar Store, died Monday in a local convalescent hospital at the age of
70. He was born in Sebastopol and lived all his life in Sonoma County,
serving on the Sebastopol City Council and as its honorary mayor.
Together with his borther, Daveiro ran the downtown Sebastopol bar
frequented by locals, from the town doctor to the the apple plant
workers. Don began work during the depression after graduating from Analy
High School. The brothers bought the business from their father Jack in
1964, 30 years after he purchased what had been a downtown pool hall and
cigar store. The sold the business in 1979. Daveiro served on the city
council from 1942 to 1954, in the days before there was a city manager.
He never served as mayor during his 13-year tenure on the council so his
successors awarded him honorary mayor status in 1982. He was a member
of the 20-30 Club, the Sebastopol Lions, the Rotary Club, the Santa Rosa
Elks Club, and the Sebastopol Chamber of Commerce. He leaves his wife,
June Daveiro, Santa Rosa; his son, Robert "Bud" Daveiro, Sebastopol; his
daughter, Judy Howry, Sebastopol; his sisters, Grace Rains, Southgate,
and Gloria Pfeifer, Sebastopol; his brother, Jack Daveiro, Sebastopol,
and three grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 6:30
p.m. Thursday at Pleasant Hill-Analy O'Leary Mortuary. A Mass of
Christian burial will be celebrated at 7 p.m. Thursday in St. Sebastian's
Catholic Church. The family prefers contributions to the Alzheimer's
Foundation.

Don Daveiro dies
Flags flew at half mast in Sebastopol Tuesday in honor of well-known
Sebastopol resident and former civic leader Don Daveiro who died Monday
at the age of 70 following a lengthy illness. The 1932 Analy high
School graduate served as a Sebastopol City Councilman from 1942-1955 and
belonged to the Sebastopol Lions, Rotary, Elks, and 20-30 clubs, serving
is the latter as past president. Daveiro was known to hundreds of
Sebastopol area residents who may have met him when he operated Jack's
Central Cigar Store together with his father Jack Daveiro Sr., for nearly
45 years. A former member of the Sebastopol Chamber of Commerce,
Daveiro also served the Sebastopol community as a volunteer fireman.
Daveiro is survived by his wife Rose, Santa Rosa; his son, Bud Daveiro
and daughter Judy Howry of Sebastopol; sisters Grace Rains of Southgate
and Gloria Pfeifer, Sebastopol; brother Jack Daveiro, Jr., Sebastopol;
and three grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held
tonight, June 27, at 7 p.m. at St. Sebastians's Catholic Church on Covert
Lane in Sebastopol. A private funeral will be held Friday with
arrangements under the direction of Pleasant Hill-Analy O'Leary Mortuary
in Sebastopol. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's
Foundation.
