Joan was born about 1375 in , Château Beaufort, Meurthe-et-Moselle, France.  Joan's father was John Plantagenet and her mother was Katherine de Roet.  Her paternal grandparents were Edward Plantagenet and Philippa d'Avesnes; her maternal grandparents are Payn de Roet and Payn de Roet. She had a brother named John.  She was the younger of the two children. She had two half-sisters named Elizabeth and Joan.  She died on November 13th, 1440 in Howden, East Riding, Yorkshire, England.  She was buried in Cathedral, Lincoln, Lincolnshire, England.
