His paternal grandparents were John Straw and Mary Molly Emerson. He had a brother and a sister, named James S. and Susan A.. He was the oldest of the three children. He died at the age of 59 on December 10th, 1892 in Epsom, Rockingham County, New Hampshire. He was buried in New Rye Cemetery, Epsom, Rockingham County, New Hampshire.-
