William H. was born on August 21st, 1828 in Hill, Grafton County, New Hampshire. William H.'s father was Sargent Straw and his mother is Priscilla Bennet Sanborn. His paternal grandparents were John Straw and Mary Molly Emerson. He has a brother and five sisters, named Sargent Sanborn, Elvira, Mahala, Mary Elizabeth, Abigail Jane and Priscilla Elizabeth. He is the youngest of the seven children.-
