Mary Elizabeth was born on August 3rd, 1818 in Andover, Massachusetts. Mary Elizabeth's father was Sargent Straw and her mother is Priscilla Bennet Sanborn. Her paternal grandparents were John Straw and Mary Molly Emerson. She has two brothers and four sisters, named Sargent Sanborn, William H., Elvira, Mahala, Abigail Jane and Priscilla Elizabeth. She is the third oldest of the seven children.-
