Helisende was born about 1046 in Normandy, France. Helisende's father was Richard D'Avranches and her mother is Emenhilde De Conteville. Her paternal grandparents were Toustien Le Goz and Judith De Montanolier; her maternal grandparents were Harlevin De Conteville and Herleva (Arletta) De Falaise. She had a brother and two sisters, named Hugh, Margaret and Maud. She was the oldest of the four children. She died after 1077.-
