Jacob was born on January 22nd, 1782 in Dunbarton, Merrimack County, New Hampshire. Jacob's father is Jacob Sargent Colby and his mother is Phebe Putney. His paternal grandfather was Jacob Colby and his paternal grandmother is Susannah Sargent. He had two brothers and six sisters, named Jeremiah, Jonathan, Dorcas, Sarah, Hannah, Mary, Fanny and Nancy. He was the second oldest of the nine children. He died at the age of 43 on September 30th, 1825 in Bradford, Orange County, Vermont.-
