Henry was born in September 1068 in Selby, Yorks, England.  Henry's father was William and his mother was Matilda De Flanders.  His paternal grandparents were Robert II De Normandie and Herleva (Arletta) De Falaise; his maternal grandparents were Baudouin V Flanders and Adele Alix. He had a brother and two sisters, named Richard Fitz Pons Bychan, Matilda and Adele.  He was the second youngest of the four children. He had a half-brother named Walter.  He died at the age of 67 on December 1st, 1135 in Angers, Maine-Et-Loire, France.  He was buried on January 4th, 1136 in Reading Abbey, Reading, Berkshire, England.

‌Henry and Matilda were married in a religious ceremony on November 11th, 1100 in Westminster, London, Middlesex, England.  They had two daughters named Constance and Matilda Maud.
