William's father was Walter Stewart and his mother is Beatrix De Angus.  His paternal grandmother is UNKNOWN UNKNOWN; his maternal grandmother is UNKNOWN UNKNOWN. He had three brothers and five sisters, named Alexander, John, Walter, Eupheme, Elizabeth, Marjorie (Margaret), UNKNOWN and Daughter.
