His paternal grandparents were Dennis Farren and Frances (Fannie) McCauley; his maternal grandparents were Sylvester Augustine Murphy and Mary Elizabeth Smith. He had three brothers named William Augustine, Charles B. and Francis J.. He was the second youngest of the four children. He died at the age of 29 on June 12th, 1917.-
