Isabel was born in 1222 in Thetford, Norfolk, England. Isabel's father was Hugh Le Bigod and her mother was Maud Marshall. Her paternal grandparents were Roger Bigod and Ida Plantagenet; her maternal grandparents were William Marshall and Isabel Fitzgilbert De Clare. She was an only child.
