Henry Beaufort 
Henry was born in 1375 in Chateau Beaufort, France. Henry's father was John Gaunt (Duke Lancaster) and his mother was Katherine De Roet. His paternal grandparents were Edward Iii Plantagenet and Philippa De Hainault; his maternal grandmother was Mrs Payn De Roet. He was an only child. He died at the age of 72 on April 11th, 1447 in Wolvesey Palace, Winchester, England.General Notes

Henry of Beaufort was of the important House ofLancaster, a Cardinal of W
inchester, and was the richest man in all of England. He was an intelligen
t, religious, and very educated person. He provided the King, the Court a
nd the Church large amounts of money. Helped arrange the marriage of rath
er feeble King Henry VI to Margaret of Anjou, a niece of the King ofFran
ce and a remarkable woman. The Beaufort family fought much on the si
de of the King in the terrible battles of the day. He married Alice FitzAl
an before he entered the church. Mention of early life and his alternate n
ame of Harry in book "Katherine". Described as "ambitious, haughty, and im
petuous", he also wasregarded as a first statesman in all of Europe. B
ut he also participated shamefully in the trial of St Jeanne of Arc at Rou
en in 1431.
