Amadeo III was born in Savoie, France.  Amadeo III's father was Humbert II de Maurienne & Savoy and his mother was Gisele De Macon De Bourgogne.  His paternal grandparents were Amadeus II de Savoie and Joan of Switzerland; his maternal grandparents were William I "The Great" of Burgundy and Stephanie (Etiennete) De Longwy. He had a brother and two sisters, named William of, Agnes and Adelheid. He had a half-brother and a half-sister, named Guillaume VI and Joan Giovanna.  He died on April 1st, 1148 in Nicosia while on crusade.  He was buried in Church of St. Croix in Nicosia.

‌Amadeo III and Mathilde were married in a religious ceremony about 1120.  They had four sons and six daughters, named John of, Peter of, William of, Umberto III, Elisa of, Margaret of, Agnes of, Mafalda (Mahaut) of, Isabella of and Juliana of.
