Mathilde was born about 1119 in Nancy, Meurthe-et-Moselle, France. Mathilde's father was Mainhard Von Spanheim and her mother was Mechthild Von Morsberg. Her paternal grandparents were Stephan Von Spanheim and Sophie Von Hamm; her maternal grandparents were Adalbert Von Morsberg and Mechthild Von Mompelgard. She was an only child.
They had a daughter named Sophie.
